Mary Elizabeth Green Cloninger

Mary Elizabeth Green Cloninger, age 97, of Newton, NC, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017, at Conover Nursing & Rehabilitation in Conover, NC. Born January 6, 1920, in Alamance County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Lawrence Green and Nannie Brinsfield Green.

Mary was a member of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newton, NC, and had retired from Carolina Glove Co.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Lee Cloninger; sister, Ruth Green McGlamery; brothers, Lawrence Green, Howard Green, Ed Green, and Richard Green.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Debi Cloninger of Fort Mill, SC; grandson Scott Gardiner and wife Jessica; great-grandchildren Haley Gardiner, Cannon Gardiner, Brady Gardiner, and Ethan Gardiner; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC with Rev. Faye Herbin officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church, 111 West 13th Street, Newton, NC, 28658.
