Maude Irene Miller Armstrong

Maude Irene Miller Armstrong, age 93, of Conover, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC. Born September 30, 1923, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Miller and Rosalee M. Lail Miller.

Maude retired as a unit secretary from Glenn R. Frye Hospital in Hickory, NC, and she was a life member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Conover, NC. She was an avid bowler with the AMF Senior League at Colonial Lanes in Hickory, NC. She was a prolific reader and loved traveling with Christian Tours. Her home of 93 years and her family were the center of her life.

In addition to her parents, Maude was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Armstrong and fifteen sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce A. Murphy and husband Mike of Newton, NC; son, J. Michael “Mike” Armstrong of Bedminster, NJ; grandchildren, Kelly W. Price of Charlotte, NC, Brian S. Price and wife Crystal of Gaffney, SC, Thomas A. Armstrong of San Francisco, California, and Elizabeth R. Armstrong of New York, NY; great-grandchildren, Brittany Price, Saxon Owens, Sevannah Price, and Seth Price; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe Salyer and Atticus Bolick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, February 6, 2017, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Bollinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:45 AM in the fellowship hall prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Hal Armstrong, Burt Armstrong, Ralph E. Price, Shane Hill, Patrick Murphy, and Dave Waters.
