Melvin Grady Little, age 92, of Catawba, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Catawba Valley Assisted Living at Rock Barn in Claremont, NC. Born June 15, 1926 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Arthur Eugene Little and Hettie Isenhour Little.
Melvin was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba, NC, where he had served on the building committee and in various other capacities. He had worked for many years as a superintendent in the construction industry and retired as a self-employed residential contractor. Melvin was a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II. He enjoyed raising game chickens and was a member of the Game Fowl Breeders Association. Melvin enjoyed spending his mornings with “The Gang” at the Claremont Café Pool Room and also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and fishing with his grandsons.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray Little, Everette Little, and Jack Little; and his sisters, Helen Adams, Hettie Tripp, Marilyn Bostian, and Mabel Sue Little.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 71 years, Leona Rose Miller Little; sons, Bill Little and wife Fran of Catawba, NC, and Michael Little and wife Jeannie of Conover, NC; brother, Fred Little Sr. and wife Jo of Newton, NC; grandchildren, Russ Little and wife Sarah of Charlotte, NC, Michelle Little and companion Eric Rector of Conover, NC, Olivia Trollinger and husband Jamie of Hickory, NC, and Josh Little and wife Lauren of Hickory, NC; and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ella, Taylor, Austin, Jacob, Anniston, and Ethan.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 31, 2018, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Gregory Alms officiating. The burial will follow with military rites provided by the US Navy Honor Guard and Newton American Legion Post #16 at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Catawba, NC. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:00 to 12:45 PM on Friday.
