Nathan Holt Lehman, of Conover passed away on June 1, 2026 at the age of 76. Nathan was born on Wednesday, September 28, 1949 to the late Louis Lehman and Ellen English. In addition to his parents, Nathan was preceded in death by his two brothers.
Nathan was a graduate of Hickory High School and Western Carolina University, where he met his wife Harriet, although they did not reconnect until a number of years later. Nathan worked for many years as a box designer and later in sales for several local companies. In addition, Nathan was a talented musician, and music was one of his great loves. He played several instruments, primarily the guitar, exceptionally well. He loved to play live with his musical comrades, and he and Harriet loved to attend live shows, including many years of Merlefest, a renowned bluegrass festival. As befits someone with artistic talents, he was also a skilled woodworker and photographer. At his home on Lake Lookout, he built himself a woodworking studio and carved the most beautiful pieces. He loved to gift his friends gorgeous handmade wooden spoons. He and Harriet were avid campers and loved the North Carolina mountains and being in nature. For many years, they lived on the lake and loved relaxing on their back porch or being on the water in their canoes or pontoon boat. After moving back to Conover, they were delighted to be closer to old friends and make new ones in their neighborhood.
Nathan and Harriet also loved their dogs, the last of which, Lizzie, has been adopted by a neighbor.
Those left to cherish Nathan’s memory are his sister-in-law Margaret Mauney Tabb (Lewis) of Pittsboro NC, his niece Sarah Tabb (Jose Garza) of Scarsdale NY and his nephew Skip Tabb (Rachel) of Cary NC, who would go camping with Harriet and him when he was young, along with many treasured friends.
A service to celebrate Nathan and his wife Harriet’s life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC on Tuesday, June 9 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00. Burial will follow the service in Conover City Cemetery.
