

O. Kemit “Kem” Lawing, Jr., age 57, of Catawba, passed away on July 16, 2013. Born November 2, 1955 in Catwba County, he was the son of Mabel Brittain Lawing of Conover and the late Osborne Kemit Lawing, Sr.
Kem was co-owner of Conover Lumber Company and a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Conover. Kem was a very devoted family man and loved the outdoors, especially hunting, archery, fishing and golf. He was a member of the Brushy Mountain Archery Club in Taylorsville, NC.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of six years, Tina Johnson Lawing, of the home; sons, Thomas Preston Cecil and Jonathan Greer Cecil, of the home; brothers, Tim Lawing and wife, Lorraine, of Catawba, Rodney Lawing and wife, Kimberly, of Conover; sister, Donna Lawing Scott and husband, Roland, of Catawba; nieces, Amber Burris and husband, Brandon, Kristen Daniel and husband, Jon; nephews, Chad Scott, Hunter Lawing, Tanner Lawing, Matthew Bongiorno, Blake Gehringer; great-niece, Brianna Burris; great-nephew, Jase Burris; and many more in-laws and family.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ with Rev. Lonny McShirley and Rev. Peggy Stout officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held following the service on Saturday at the church. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
A private burial will be held on Saturday at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
