Pauline Catherine Rockett Chastain

Pauline Catherine Rockett Chastain, age 91, of Conover, NC, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Brian Center East in Hickory, NC. Born February 4, 1927 in Catawba County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Winford Long Rockett and Eula Catherine Hollar Rockett.

Pauline was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC, and she enjoyed traveling and cooking. She had worked as a seamstress in the glove and furniture industry, retiring from Leathercraft.

In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Marion Matthews and her second husband, Kenneth Bruce Chastain; two brothers, Clyde Everette Rockett, Sr., and an infant brother; sisters, Mary Alice Spencer and an infant sister; daughter-in-law, Cathy Gantt Matthews; and son-in-law, Richard Price.

Survivors include her son, G. Nicholas “Nick” Matthews of Conover, NC; daughter, Sandra Kay Price of Hickory, NC; sisters, Joyce Randall and husband Donald of Hickory, NC, and Dorothy Hildebran and husband Daniel of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Kim Matthews of Hiddenite, NC, Carrie Price of Hickory, NC, and Eric Price of Hickory, NC; great-grandsons, Alex Major and Nathan Major.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 24, 2018, at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Mike Ramey and Rev. Eric Hollar officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 AM on Monday.
