Ralph Gerald Hamler Sr.

Born on March 1, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio, Ralph lived a life defined by service, determination, adventure, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army on October 13, 1958, beginning a distinguished 22-year military career. While stationed in South Korea, he met Kay Ann Mun, and together they built a loving family, raising four children and welcoming 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

During his military service, Ralph earned a degree in Business Administration. After retiring from the Army, he began a second career with Food Lion, where he retired as a store manager.

Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay Ann Hamler, and his daughter, Mary Thompson. Later in life, he married Beatriz Hamler, and together they raised one daughter. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Beatriz; his children; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Laura Duffy and Janet Walburn; extended family; and many dear friends who will cherish his memory.

Ralph attend Hickory SDA Church, Ralph remained devoted to God throughout his life. His faith was reflected in the quiet strength, determination, and resilience with which he faced life's challenges.

Those who knew Ralph knew he was truly one of a kind. He had a creative sense of humor, colorful expressions, and a gift for turning ordinary moments into memorable stories. His good-natured grumbling was part of his charm and often brought smiles to those around him. He believed in working hard, caring for his family, and embracing life's adventures.

Ralph loved traveling, exploring new places, and discovering what was around the next corner. His family will forever cherish his stories, playful teasing, unique personality, and the many memories they shared with him. His legacy of service, faith, resilience, laughter, and love will continue through the generations that follow.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover, North Carolina, with Pastor Art Randall officiating. Committal and interment will follow at Conover City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hickory American Legion in honor of Ralph's 22 years of military service and in appreciation for the support they provide to veterans and their families.
