Although we did not run around together I always considered him a good friend and going by the same name I felt a kindred spirit. He always had joy and a smile whenever I saw him even in the last couple of months when I found out he was ill and went by occasionally to see him. We went through the high school annual and looked at the pictures and laughed how we all had changed so much. On my last visit he cut off a piece of a huge cactus that he said he brought back from Arizona about 30 years ago and wanted me to have a part of it. I am not sure what it was about him but I felt closer to him during these visits and he lifted my spirits more than I could ever lift his. I think he enjoyed his life and I know he had ups and downs like we all have. I will miss him.
