Raymond Scott Miller, 86, of Claremont, NC, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 2, 2025. First and foremost, Scott was a devoted and loving father to his three daughters. He spent 30 years as a chef and caterer, and leaves behind a wealth of recipes, most notably his famous cheese straws. Even in his final days, he was making grocery lists, hoping to get home and cook for those he loved.
Scott also worked as a hairdresser in Gastonia for 47 years; that was long enough for him to see some of his grandchildren in his salon chair. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his face would light up whenever they entered the room. He enjoyed his cigarettes, black coffee, cheeseburgers, and watching Fox News.
His memory was remarkable, he could remember details of his past that most people would forget at his age. He loved talking about childhood memories and would share them with anyone who would listen. Chances are if you are reading this, he had a fond memory or story about you, too. To know Scott was to love him, and being loved by him was truly a gift.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents Foy Eugene Miller and Mary Nell Miller, his sister, Sue Marilyn Miller, his brother, Billy Eugene Miller and his wife Carolyn, his sister, Carolyn “Sis” Furr and her husband, Larry, and his loving sister-in-law Sandra Miller, late wife of his youngest brother, Terry Miller.
He is survived by his three loving daughters, Karen Love Foster of Gastonia, NC, Kele Scott Miller of Clayton, NC, Krista Lanai Miller of Clayton, NC, seven grandchildren, Dustin (Elizabeth) Foster of Charlotte, NC, Andrew (Summer) Little of Indian Trail, NC, Nik (Jessica) Foster of Cherryville, NC, Kaley (Adam) Dykstra of Statesville, NC, Alex (Greg) Little of High Point, NC, Austin (Grace) Davis of Columbia, SC, Rachael (Zachary) Williams of Rock Hill, SC, eight great-grandchildren, his youngest brother, Terry Miller of Claremont, NC, including six nephews, five nieces, and eighteen grand-nephews and nieces, whom he loved and cherished all the same.
