Rev. Richard Eugene Porter Sr.

Born June 14, 1926 in Cabarrus county, NC, he was the son of the late Raymond William Porter and Vera Alice Porter. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Richard served as a pastor for over 53 years of service to the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years Gladys Dover Porter; sons, Richard Porter Jr. and wife Sandra of Hildebran, Randall Porter and wife Jody of Alexander county, and Jeffrey Porter and wife Joy of Hickory; daughters, Alice Boston and fiancé Keith of Vale, Rebecca Porter of Conover, and Jennifer McCain and husband Alto of Florida; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church in Hickory with Pastor Dale Faulkenbury officiating. He will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, NC.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Conover, NC.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.
