Rita Ikerd

She was Born in Newton, North Carolina on March 1, 1931 the daughter of William and Leola Bandy.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Bobby C. Ikerd, her parents, as well as three brother in laws; Richard Hewitt, Mr. Frank H. Ikerd Jr, and Jerry Shelton Ikerd.

She is survived by one son, Timothy C. Ikerd (Cynthia) also surviving are one sister, Rebecca Bandy Hewitt, one sister in law, Brenda Ikerd of Somerset, Kentucky. and a host of nieces and nephews.

Rita Bandy and Bobby Ikerd both distinguished themselves as accomplished athletes excelling on individual basketball teams. She graduated from Balls High School in Newton, North Carolina. Rita married Bobby Ikerd in December, 1949.

Rita gifted her son, Tim, a love for cooking at an early age. She taught him to play baseball , served as his Cub Scout troop as den mother and helped with algebra homework.

Rita's expertise in accounting allowed her to be of service to Bobby's business as well as Tim's.

Rita's life can be best encapsulated by family, friends, flowers and cooking. She experienced all of these in abundance.

Our family will always be indebted to those that cared for Rita during her extended illness.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or Bluegrass Senior Living Garden Club.

Rita will be laid to rest on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 10:30am at The Friendship Methodist Church Cemetery, 2900 NC Highway 16 S. Newton, North Carolina 28658.
