Shirley Poovey Saunders

Shirley Saunders, age 77, of Newton, died October 31, 2013 at her residence. Born February 16, 1936 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Edgar Poovey and Floy Katherine Matthews. She was a van driver for Goodwill Industries.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Glenn Saunders; son, Gary Mark Saunders, Sr.; brother, Charles Ervin Poovey.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Johnny Bolick and wife, Lori of Gray, Iowa; daughters, Tina Presnell of Newton, Penny Tester of Conover; grandchildren, Freddie Lewis Cannon II, Kristie Michelle Tester, Tammy Lynn Cannon, Shannon Marie Tester, Gary Saunders, Jr.; great- grandchildren, Brandy Nicole Combs, Halley Lynn Combs, Naszaiah Woods, Jaylen Woods, Yasmeen Tester, and Kayla Ramseur.

The family will receive friends at Drum Funeral Home in Conover on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Conover City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Goodwill Industries at 2701 University Parkway, Winston Salem, NC 27105.
