Sylvia Ann Barthlow Miller

Born June 23, 1942 in Martinsburg, W. VA, she was the daughter of Raymond and Nancy Barthlow.

“Nana” touched others with her infectious smile and kind words; she had a quick wit and loved to laugh. She had a love for sewing, crafts and needlework as well as an eye for interior design.

Sylvia obtained an Associates Degree in Interior Design from Western Piedmont Community College later in life. She worked at Catawba Valley Medical Center as a unit secretary for many years and formed lifelong friendships with many of her co-workers.

She was a loving wife to Charles Miller for 28 years and even though they divorced, they continued to remain friends. Upon her diagnosis they established the loving closeness they once shared.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Barthlow.

She leaves behind her mother, Nancy Barthlow and four sisters, Linda Swann (Don) of PA, Vivian Anderson, Sandra Somers (Randy), and Billee Jo Myers (Alan) of W. VA. Sylvia is also survived by her sons, Charles Miller, Jr. (Cindy) of Claremont, Doug Miller (Debbie) of Hickory; daughter, Jackie Miller (Kevin) of Hickory; grandchildren, Jonathan Presnell (Glenny), Jordan Johnson (Rebecca), Justin Miller, Katie Logan (Brewer), Jennifer Miller; her first great-grandson, Noah Johnson; great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Presnell; bonus great-grandchildren, Robinson, Rachelle and Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Sylvia will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover with Pastor Alan Myers officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.
