Turly "Eleanor" Matthews Pharr

She was born on September 27, 1910 in Catawba, NC to the late Marcus T. Matthews and Lovie Holler Matthews. Eleanor was a lifelong member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Conover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orin H. Pharr; brothers, Walter, John, Craig, Samuel, and Verlie Matthews; sisters, Katie Woodell, Alma Hedrick, and Juanita Hollar.

Left to cherish her memory are her step-daughter, Jennie Walz of FL; son, John “Jack” Hoffman; local nieces and nephews, David Matthews and wife, Gail of Claremont, Cameron Matthews and wife, Tonia of Hudson, Freida Matthews of Conover, Janie Arndt of Newton, Edna Punch of Hudson, Kathy Isenhour and husband, Gary of Conover, Jimmy Jallos and wife, Bobbie of Cornelius, Betty Lynn and Ray Killian of Charlotte; and a number of other relatives from North Carolina, Kansas, and Missouri.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 2:45 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Beaver officiating.

Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the church.
