

Mrs. Virginia Shearin, age 104, went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, August 11, 2025, at Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Taylorsville where she resided. She was born May 7th, 1921, in Catawba County, to the late Hillary and Ola Propst.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Freeman Shearin; son, Jay Shearin; grandson, Michael Greene and son-in-law, Furman Greene.
Virginia was a member of First Methodist Church in Newton and had worked in the textile industry for many years. After her husband’s death, she attended Catawba Valley Technical Institute where she received her nurses aid certificate. She loved caring for older adults in their homes as well as doing private sitting at the Abernathy Center in Newton. She enjoyed knitting and baking homemade desserts. Persimmon pudding was one of her favorites.
Virginia is survived by two daughters and one daughter-in-law, Gayle Greene of Asheboro; Debbie Reidenbach (Philip) of Statesville; Pat Shearin of Conover, and 12 grandchildren (Ray, Todd, Wendy, Dustin, Troy, Angie, Clint, Will, Stephanie, Shannon, Jennifer and Hayley) 24 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2025, at Drum Funeral Home in Conover officiated by Reverend Josh Sherfey. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Newton.
