Yvonne ‘Bonnie’ Farnsworth, age 75, passed away Friday, August 31st, 2018 at 12:55am surrounded by her loving family. Yvonne was born June 18, 1943 to the late Fordyce and Doris (Hampton) Benson in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Walt Farnsworth and a sister, Sandy Maull.

Bonnie is survived by a daughter, Shannon Farnsworth; a son, Charles Farnsworth and wife Pam; brother-in-law, Ron Farnsworth and wife Helen; niece, Laura Pirtle and husband Jim; grandchildren, Sara Broten and husband Austin, Michael Farnsworth, Christopher Ingram and Baron Pollard; additional survivors include a host of great-nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was a teacher to many, a lifelong Girl Scout and a member of Catawba County Historical Society. Bonnie believed in the adage, “give back to your community in any way possible.” She touched many lives over countless hours of volunteer work in the community. She was crafty, imaginative and loved making new designs to share. She loved participating in the annual Christmas Craft Exchange with friends. A favorite pastime was playing “Bunko” and she loved visiting the Biltmore Estate. Bonnie once considered opening a bookstore because of her love for books and enjoyment of reading. Bonnie and Walt will be deeply missed by their children, family and friends. They already are…

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 on Friday, September 7, at Drum Funeral Home, 509 1st Ave. South, Conover, 828-464-3031. A Celebration of Bonnie’s Life will be honored at 2pm with the Rev. Monica Childers officiating. The family hopes you can attend.

My life was touched by Bonnie as we shared our mutual love for the Girl Scout program in the Catawba Valley. She taught me so much and truly loved making an impact on more girls than she'll ever know. She surely impacted me with her knowledge, commitment and compassion.

I taught Chuck at Oxford Elementary. Bonnie was at school often helping in class or substitute teaching. I remember her wonderful smile and helpfulness. She was very pleasant to be around. My sympathy to the family. I am sure you have many treasured memories.
