Albert Carl Hillmeyer

July 30, 1923April 16, 2018

Albert Carl Hillmeyer passed away at the age of 94 on April 16, 2018 after a long battle with dementia. He was born in Elmendorf, TX on June 30, 1923. Albert was the son of Joseph and Emma (Real) Hillmeyer. Albert had two brothers, Herman, and Louis Hillmeyer, and one sister, Cecilia (Hillmeyer) Rittman whom all have preceded him in death. He is survived by his two beloved daughters, Connie Peirson and her husband Mack Peirson, Lisa Carpenter and her husband Craig Carpenter, along with his granddaughter, Kimberly Mitchell with whom he considered a third daughter. Kimberly was Albert’s primary caregiver for nearly three years and they shared many fun adventures together.

Albert was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a radioman in the Corps and served in the Battle of Okinawa. Immediately after the end of the war, he was assigned to China, where he established a radio station for the military. Albert, known to his friends as Al, will be remembered as an expert fish taxidermist, well known in the Lake Conroe area for more than 40 years. Long known for his infectious grin, positive outlook on life, big personality, and colorful stories, Al considered everyone he met a friend, and he would give the shirt off his back to a stranger. Al will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The family appreciates the many kindnesses of the staff at Silver Hills Assisted Living in Montgomery, TX. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Metcalf Funeral Directors in Conroe, TX. Military honors will be performed at a Graveside Service at the Houston National Cemetery at 12:45pm. Those serving as pallbearers are Mack Peirson, Craig Carpenter, Maj. General Floyd Carpenter (Ret.), Butch Holmes, Roy Boney, and Del Collins as Honorary Pallbearer.

Albert was a Marine Corps veteran of WWII. He served in the Battle of Okinawa. His Corp buddies called him “Ace.” That was just one of the many nicknames he went by. And just as his fish stories grew, so did his stories about the war. Al was a great story teller. We will miss his stories very much.

My Granddaddy and I were very close from the time I was born. My mother had me at a very young age so we both lived with my grandparents until I was about four years old. I spend nearly every weekend and half of the summer vacationing with my grandparents well into my teenage years. I will always cherish this special time I had with both my grandparents, but especially the time spent with my Granddaddy.
