Amelda died on March 11, 2026, in Conroe, Texas.
Amelda was 86-years-old. She was born on October 7, 1939 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. From a young age, she was active in her church community and dedicated to serving Jesus Christ. She married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Sloan, in 1959. Together they had two girls, Karri Lyn Sloan and Mary Jane Vaught and then eventually, they welcomed six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Amelda's family members remember her as a creator - she made delicious baked goods, sewed quilts and dresses, and grew flowers in her garden. She had a passion for scripture, and she studied God's word at every opportunity. She loved her family (and her dogs) fiercely, and she made our world a more beautiful place. She will be missed by many.
Amelda is survived by her children, Karri Sloan and Mary Jane Vaught; her nephews, Jimmie Sloan, Mark Elam, and James Elam; her nieces, Kathy Messer, Charlotte Caso, and Susie Kamman; her grandchildren, Deke Neves, Nicole Neves, Kaci Willms, Cullen Vaught, and Sloan Vaught; and her seven great grandchildren.
Amelda is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Bobby Sloan, and her grandson Drew Neves.
