Andre was living in Austin, Texas at the time, pursuing a career at Tesla. He had been recently promoted at work, and had moved into a new home, after having had a year of new beginnings. He had moved from Colorado in June of last year, leaning on the help of the friends he had made there, and his family down in Texas, to start fresh and work towards a healthier life for himself.
Andre is survived by his Mother, Grethel Hoffmaister (and Dwight Rozier); his Father, Hector Hoffmaister (and Marielena Cruz); his siblings: Mario Hoffmaister, Jonathan Hoffmaister (and Diana Hoffmaister), Meghan Rozier, Alexandra Ruiz, and Alberto Ruiz; nieces: Stella, Avila, Teresa, and one on the way. He is also survived by his Grandparents: Flora Esquivel (and Randall Garcia).
Andre, alongside his family, took monumental strides in his final year, towards a brighter life. The director of a recovery program he participated in during this last year, said Andre was “humble and persistent.”
Andre’s family truly witnessed him grow and tackle challenges no one should have to face this past year of trials with his illness and addiction. He is remembered for his sweet and gentle presence, never imposing, never wanting to ask for help. He is remembered for his goofiness with his nieces, his appetite, and his love and affection for his sweet dog of 11 years, Gibbs. He is remembered by his love for music, a good cup of coffee, his uncanny ability to fall asleep in nearly any scenario, and his obsession with football, namely the Redskins (he was vocal about not liking the team’s name change to “commanders”). He is also remembered for his diligence in work, and his deep commitment and appreciation for whichever job he had at different times in his life. Even though he was at Tesla for a short time, one of his managers voiced recently that he “was one of the most hardworking guys on the team. He was always early and stayed late, and was willing to do anything that needed to be done to help the team.”
Most importantly, Andre will be remembered for his confidence in the love of his parents for him. Andre was able to rely on his parents in dark and confusing times, and in times of great joy and growth. And Andre will be remembered and missed by his brothers, who rejoiced and laughed with him, grew alongside him, and walked next to Andre in tough moments.
Andre’s trust in God was evident. He never turned down an opportunity to attend mass or pray with the family, and always expressed gratitude when the family let him know he was being prayed for. Found in his wallet were the prayer cards that his Mother gave him years ago.
While Andre was not a man of many words, Andre has left a big mark on all of us. His actions and presence spoke volumes for what was in his heart. May our Merciful God, Our Blessed Mother, and St. Joseph, who is Patron of departing souls, bring Andre and the rest of us to peace and true love.
