Barbara started playing the piano at the age of three; she loved music and playing the piano. She later became the Valedictorian of her high school class. After graduating, she attended business school where she finished ahead of the schedule. She later met and married Kenneth E. Hecke, SR. and they started their life together. She became a stay at home mom and did a fantastic job of that. During those years, she started giving piano lessons, which gave her great joy. She also played for many funerals and many church services. Later in life, she got into the restaurant business (BK'S BUFFET) as her and Kenneth both loved to cook. The running joke was the BK stood for Barbara and Kenneth's if it was successful and Barbara Kay if it was not. They owned and operated BK’s until Kenneth passed away.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, husband and her son, Richard Hecke.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth E. Hecke, JR. and his wife Charlotte of Conroe, Texas; daughter, Pam Hecke of Dallas, Texas; son, Dan Smith and his wife Monica of San Antonio, Texas; son, George Smith of Dallas, Texas; son, Marty Smith and his wife Kate of Russellville, Kentucky; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
