Billy Joe McCarty

Billy Joe McCarty, 91, passed away on December 26, 2018 in Conroe, Texas. A proud Navy man, Billy golfed religiously as long as his body allowed. His final years were spent side by side with his wife of 69 years, Jo Ellen. Billy is survived by his wife, three loving grandchildren (Darcie, Caitlin, and Nathan), and three great-granddaughters who only know the taste of Blue Bell Ice Cream thanks to their Granddaddy. Billy is preceded in death by his parents J.L. and Nannie McCarty and four siblings of Harlingen, Texas, as well as his beloved daughter, Deborah Stevens. Born in Hale County, Texas, Billy worked as a dispatcher with Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1991. The McCartys are longtime members of the Woodland Hills Church of Christ. Billy will be laid to rest this Saturday, December 29 with a visitation with the family at 12:30pm followed by a 2pm service at Cashner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for any contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in his name.
