Candy Crowe, 70, of Cut-N-Shoot, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2023. Candy was born on June 24, 1953, in Houston, Texas, the only daughter of William Young and Mary Emma Miles. She grew up on the North Side and attended Sam Houston High School, where she graduated a semester early in December 1970. She then attended the University of Houston while working in the oil and gas industry.
Candy married Otto Foltermann in 1976, after which they settled in rural Montgomery County, Texas. Country living was perfect for Candy, and she soon started tending animals and growing a garden. In subsequent years, she made lasting friendships with many people who shared her interest in raising and caring for animals—including chickens, exotic birds, horses, goats, and pigs. Candy instilled in her children Michael, Paige, and Miles the integrity and rectitude of farm living and manual work. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Grangerland and devoted many hours to her roles as a room mother and Parent Teacher Organization officer at Ben Milam Elementary School.
Candy re-entered the workforce after Otto’s sudden death in 1991. She began working as a paraprofessional for Conroe Independent School District; after completing her bachelor’s degree in 2004, she became a classroom teacher. Her career with Conroe ISD lasted over 25 years. Eventually, Candy built a successful career and technical education program, which included a nationally ranked Future Business Leaders of America chapter. In her years as a teacher, Candy touched the lives of hundreds of students. Many of those students returned in later years to thank her for her tough love, as well as the real world skills she taught them.
Candy found love a second time and married Larry Crowe in 1994. They were blessed with nearly three decades of marriage—during which they shared many adventures traveling, skiing, hiking, and raising their beloved French bulldogs. Larry tirelessly served and loved Candy in the final years of her life, as her healthcare needs increased.
Candy was forthright, firm, and courageous. She never hesitated to help a family member, friend, or student in need. In the final years of her earthly life, Candy patiently weathered the trial of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and found the spiritual strength that only emerges by the compassionate grace of the triune God. The truths of God’s sovereignty and goodness were great comforts to her during this final season of adversity. She now enjoys the reward that awaits all the saints—everlasting comfort and rest in the presence of God.
Candy is survived by her husband, Larry Crowe; son, Michael Foltermann; daughter, Paige Foltermann and her husband Robert Cortez; son, Miles Foltermann and his wife Kelly Foltermann; grandchildren, Cynthia Denton, Andrew Foltermann, and Marigold Foltermann; as well as many friends and members of her extended family.
