Caroline had a wonderful childhood in Conroe, Texas, her lifelong home . She was a member of the First United Methodist Church from birth until death. She enjoyed riding horses all around the Conroe area with her friends and she had many fond memories of her childhood with many friends and family members and her dog, Tango.
After graduating from Conroe High School in 1944, she began working on her Bachelor degree at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas where she became a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She finished her degree in education at Sam Houston State University and later received a Master of Education degree from SHSU.
Caroline worked for Conroe ISD for more than 30 years, retiring in 1980. During her years at CISD, she taught students in grades 6 through 11 in the subjects of Science, PE, and American History. She had a lifelong passion for education. The only thing she loved more than being a teacher and her students was her family. Both her daughter and son were lucky enough to have her as their American History teacher.
In 1949, she was proud to be chosen Queen of the Historicade, a pageant portraying episodes in the history of Montgomery County Texas. This was a 3-day long Hollywood produced event with a pageant/performance and parade.
One of the other great passions of her life was genealogy. She and Harold traveled all over the United States researching and gathering data about their ancestors. She was a member of the Montgomery County Genealogical and Historical Society.
Caroline led a Christian-centered life. She was christened on Mother's Day 1928 in the First Methodist Church of Conroe and remained a member all of her life.
She married the love of her life, Harvey Harold Cryar, on June 9, 1951. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Merchant. They had 2 children, Carol and Carson. Although Caroline dearly loved her work as a teacher, there was never a doubt that her family came first. She was the best wife, Mama, Grandmother, and daughter that any woman could ever be.
