Charlene married Ken Von Pohle on November 4, 1981 and they were married for over 13 years and resided in both Crosby and Conroe, Tx. In Crosby they enjoyed playing golf and letting the neighborhood kids play baseball in their yard. Conroe provided proximity and many amazing Christmas parties! Ken passed away in 1994.
Charlene was the 6th oldest of 12 children, born December 19, 1934 to John & Annie Walker in Stamford, Tx. With lots of work to do on the farm, she learned the work ethic that would propel her career in later years. She enjoyed basketball in her high school years and excelled in school and finished high school early. She then enrolled in nursing school at Baptist Memorial Hospital School in San Antonio and graduated at the age of 19.
She dedicated her life to nursing. She is one of the longest tenured employees at Memorial Hermann Hospital, having completed 58 years of consecutive service there. By many accounts, she was the cause of countless saved lives, invaluable education to all who worked with her and a fierce advocate for the patients in her stewardship.
If you knew her, you knew she loved her pets. Caesar, a standard French poodle, was her formidable companion for many years. When they would greet each other he would growl in her ear as if to tell her all about his day and how happy he was to see her. Her dogs ate like kings, often getting fresh finely chopped chicken each week.
She is survived by her three sisters, Glenda Krizman, Claudia Cheairs, Sandra Davidson and numerous nieces and nephews.
