March 13, 1928January 25, 2013

Charles Allen Buckner, 84, passed away January 25, 2013 in Conroe. He was born March 13, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles Edward Buckner and Edna May Rutan. The family lived in Missouri until 1940 when they moved to Houston. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II as an air traffic controller in Germany. After the service he worked for Humble Oil during the day. In the evenings he was either working on a race car or racing it. In 1991 he was recognized by the Battleground Speedway as one of "Houston's Racing Legends". His love for cars led him into the automobile industry in downtown Houston. He worked for Jacobe Lincoln Mercury before he moved to Conroe and became a partner at San Jacinto Olds, Cadillac and Subaru. He took much pride in his customers and seeing that all of their needs were fulfilled. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. After retirement in 1986 he resided in Walden on Lake Conroe and enjoyed the lake and fishing for bass. He became an avid golfer resulting in many long time friendships. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. Buckner and Edna May Buckner, sister, Doris Stedham and wife, LaVerne Clark Buckner. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Emily Tate Buckner, his son, Joel Clark Buckner and wife Brandi Buckner of Yorktown. Stepson, James S. Bolt, III of Montgomery, stepdaughter, Susan Cox and husband Mike Cox of Midlothian. Five grandchildren: Brittany Moyers, Jordan Miller, Bailey Buckner, Tate Cox and Allie Cox. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, a Bichon Frise, named TeeBox.

A "Celebration of Charlie's Life" will be held at 11:00 on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Metcalf Funeral Directors in Conroe. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the SPCA, VFW or your favorite charity in honor of Charles A. Buckner.

Mr. Charlie was a good man. I fondly remember a fishing trip in Destin, FL when Jim, George and I had to be called down from the tower because we were too heavy. Mr. Charlie just laughed at us as we raced the storm back to shore. I guess that's the message: he made you smile.
To the family, may God lift you up and hold you close in your time of grief.
