Charles Lawrence Mann was born May 9, 1949 in Conroe, Texas to Jesse and Rita Mann. He passed away on February 21, 2021 at his home in New Waverly, Texas. Charles attended schools in Conroe, Texas and graduated from Willis High School in 1969. He loved his country so he enlisted in the Air Force but was given a medical discharge. After high school he worked for the Texas Department of Highways and Texas Dept. of Corrections for a short time each. He went to work for LWB Construction of Conroe in his early twenties and at the age of 24 became the youngest superintendent in the State of Texas at that time. When LWB was bought by Smith and Co. years later he continued his career until retirement in 2015. He took his job very seriously and was very proud of the roads that he had helped build around Texas.
Charles enjoyed raising cows and goats, hunting, gardening, woodworking, and competition BBQ. Charles headed a cook-off team, Possum Walk Cookers. They won many trophies and even represented Walker Co. in the BBQ competition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2003. He was a member of Knights of Columbus #5921 where he was instrumental in starting their annual BBQ Cook-Off fundraiser.
Charles is survived by his wife of 43 years; Darlene (Pool), son Daniel and wife Hillary of Houston, Texas; son David and wife Shantaine of Houston, Texas. Two grandchildren; Caliburn and Nimue Mann whom he loved with all his heart. They were the joy of his life and he loved spending time with them. His sister, Shirley Ray of Spring, Texas; brother Richard and wife Darlene of Tombstone, Arizona; brother Michael and wife Anne of Conroe, Texas; several nieces and nephews, many beloved cousins and extended family; and his brother and sister of the heart, Randy Hancock and Helen Younts; and Jessica Blake, who was like a daughter to Charles. He is preceded in death by his parents; Jesse and Rita Mann of Willis, Texas and sister Danette.
Charles was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of New Waverly. His faith was the guiding light in his life. He was a genuine person; you always knew where you stood with him and how he felt about something, and if you didn’t like him, it didn’t bother him one bit. He had a strong work ethic and always did his best at whatever he set out to do. He was generous and helped out people; many times anonymously. Charles will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
