Phil was born in San Antonio, TX, and lived in Florida and California before settling into Houston. He graduated from Springwoods High School and subsequently from North Texas State University. After graduating he wished to travel to Europe so his Dad got him a job as a steward on an airline traveling mostly to and from countries behind the “Iron curtain.” When the draft was instituted, and he was drafted, he applied to and was accepted to U.S Army OCS. He was an avid reader, particularly of history, but also notably of Cormac McCarthy, William F. Buckley, Elmore Leonard, and J.P. Dunlavy, to name a few. He enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, swimming, skiing, riding and showing his family’s Tennessee Walking Horses.
He was known for his unique and infectious laugh, his dry wit, and his slightly reserved but overwhelmingly gentle disposition. He is loved dearly and cherished by his family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather and husband, and a respected friend, mentor, cheerleader, and supporter to many others as well.
