Charles Woodrow “Woody” Wade was the middle of three sons born November 2, 1940 at home in Hopkinsville, KY to parents William (Bill) and Mabel (Frey) Wade. He died on November 5, 2018 at the age of 78. Growing up in Kentucky’s tobacco country, much of Woody’s youth was spent on the farm working alongside his father. He also often spoke of the admiration he had watching his mother tending her garden and then cooking the vegetables grown and that regardless of circumstances, she walked them to church every Sunday. As a young adult, Woody enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Fort Knox, KY and was stationed near Munich, Germany specializing in radio communication from 1961-1963. Upon his return, he landed a job with a waste water construction company that would shape the rest of his employment career. While he was employed with Western Summit Constructors, Inc., Woody was highly regarded for his excellence in safety and maintaining a ZERO INCIDENCE RATE which lead to numerous awards. He was meticulous and greatly admired by his crews for his teaching and mentoring abilities. Woody was very highly respected as a construction supervisor and exceled in every capacity. Back on the home front, his children, Beau, Lisa, Steve, Chris and Billy were taking on their own lives and Woody and his beloved wife Joy began devoting their time to the startup of the Calvary Road Mission in Willis, TX. Active in its growth, Woody devoted his time there until a work transfer took them to Amarillo. Upon their return, Woody became a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church active in the Deacon ministries, became a Yoke Fellow and most recently leading the Fellowship Sunday school class. He was a positive Christian influence in many lives, leading by example and the conviction of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Woody enjoyed fishing for blue gill and shell crackers, day trips to area museums, trips to Fredericksburg to pick peaches and to P-6 Farm to pick produce. Lately, what he loved most was “just sitting on it” in his big green recliner watching The Lone Ranger reruns. Woody was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Joy (Crunk) Wade, his father William Brown Wade and his brother Russell Wade. He is survived by his mother, Mabel Edith (Frey) Wade, sister, Gayla Harned, brother Donald Wade (Patricia), his children Billy Wade (Michelle), Chris Wade (Jennifer) Steve Wade (Alicia), Lisa Cruser (Ed) and Howard Lynn (Beau) Fuller, his grandchildren Kole Mullins, Korry Mullins, Justin Cruser (Gabrielle), Shannon Cruser, Kirstin Toth (Joe), Zach Wade, Charlie Wade, Chloe Wade, Isabel Atkinson and great-grandchildren Adelyn Cruser, Jax Cruser, Kolby Dawson and Eli Mullins as well as his dearest friend and companion Bonnie Anderson.
