Cynthia Jones Elliott, affectionately known as Cindy, passed away on June 18, 2024, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 85. Born on August 7, 1938, in Brazos County, Texas, to W. L. Jones and Cecyle Jones, Cindy lived a life dedicated to education, family, and community.
Cindy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, partner, and friend Bobby W. Elliott. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family, including her children Holly Tindel, Coy Smith, Joe Smith, and Carl W. Elliott; her brother John P. Jones and sister Carolyn Waghorne; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.
Cindy's academic journey began at Jefferson High in San Antonio and continued at the University of Texas in Austin. Her passion for education blossomed into a lifelong career as an educator and teacher. She began teaching in San Antonio at Holmes and John Jay high schools. After a brief period in Mississippi, she continued her career at Gregory-Portland High School, where she taught typing and business for nine years before retiring from Conroe High School.
A dedicated and enthusiastic supporter of her children's sports endeavors, Cindy never missed a game, whether it was at the YMCA or during their high school years.
Cindy herself was an avid sports enthusiast. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and bowling, as well as water and snow skiing. Her home was often filled with the sounds of friendly competition, as she played hours of badminton and ping pong with her young children and their friends. Cindy also loved games, excelling in dominoes, gin, and bridge.
She instilled in her children the joy of playing, the strength of laughter, and a loving disposition regardless of circumstance. Her superpower was not only her generous and caring nature, but the ease with which it radiated from her.
She was the cool mother. The laid-back mother. The fun mother. The loving mother. And she was ours. And we will miss her deeply.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Panorama Village community for their love, friendships, and support, especially during the later years of Cindy and Bob's lives together. We would also like to thank Cindy’s long time caregivers and friends Charlette and Catalina who treated her with love and respect.
A private service to celebrate Cindy's life will be held at Cashner Funereal Home in Conroe.
