Dalva Grayless, age 88, died on June 26, 2018, peacefully at home with family present. She was born on August 27, 1929, in Hull, Texas to John D. Hunt, Sr. and Ila E. (Young) Hunt. She was one of four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Edith, grandson Dustin Drews and sister Elaine Blackwell and Carolyn Todd. As a child, Dalva and her family moved to Tarkington, Texas. She graduated from high school in 1946. While there she met the love of her life, her husband of 71 years, R.E. “Ed” Grayless. In 1956, Dalva and Ed moved their family to Conroe with Humble Oil Co. She worked for CISD for 22 years; most of those years she spent as a paraprofessional at Sam Houston Elementary. Dalva had many interests. She loved flower gardening. She had a backyard that was worthy of Southern Living Magazine. Other things she loved to do were playing the piano, sewing, watercolor painting and interior decorating. But the thing Dalva loved most was cooking and entertaining her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Dalva was a lifelong Methodist. Growing up, she played the piano at church. She was on the worship committee at church for many years and loved preparing the communion elements. She served as a communion steward for shut-ins and in nursing homes. Dalva is survived by her husband, R.E. “Ed” Grayless. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Sherry Drews of Temple, Texas and her husband Gerald. Also her son Mark Grayless of Conroe, Texas and wife Gloria. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Matthew Grayless of Austin, Texas and wife Megan, Ashley Drews of Belton, Texas, Ryan Grayless of Houston, Texas and wife Haley. Four great grandchildren: Nathan, Grant, Elizabeth, Brooke. She is survived by her brother John D. Hunt, Jr. of Redding, California; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018, 10:00am, Cashner Funeral Home at 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas with Rev. Michelle Manuel officiating. Burial will follow at Garden Park Cemetery (adjacent to funeral home). The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29 at Cashner Funeral Home. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the loving care given by Lottie Lovelady, Glennesha Lovelady and Hamalina Bradford. Memorials may be made in Dalva’s name to The Woodlands’ United Methodist Church.
