

David “Wormy” Birchfield passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus at home on Sunday, August 28, 2016. He was 70. His passing was due to complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis. David was born January 7, 1946 at home in Glen Daniel, West Virginia to Earnest and Geneva Birchfield. He is preceded in death by his father, Earnest Birchfield. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Shelley Neeley Birchfield, his daughter Donna Peppers (Gary), step daughter Leigh Anne Smith, his Mother Geneva Birchfield, sister Nancy (John) Barbee, brother Danny Birchfield, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and loved ones. David entered the United States Army on November 30, 1963 and was Honorably discharged on November 17, 1966 with a rank of Sgt. E-5. He was a Radio Operator. David worked for Texaco in the IT department for 34 years before retirement. David’s favorite pastime was to socialize with his buddies at the local ice house. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cashner Funeral Home , 1801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 10:00 am at Cashner Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery at 12:30 pm 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.Pall bearers will be Bill Neeley, Greg Neeley, Kevin Neeley, James Neeley, Kurt Hirschberger and Patrick Kinney. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or your favorite charity. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at All Heal Home Health for the care provided for the last two and a half years, and the caring staff at Cornerstone Hospital for their care during the final two weeks of David’s life. Thanks also to Christa and Colleen with Heart to Heart Hospice for their brief but very tender care during David’s home going.
