Debra Sue Edgar, 73, of Conroe, Texas, passed away on October 2, 2026. Born on April 16, 1953, in El Paso, Texas, to the late Thelma Bond and Alfred Shepherd, Debbie lived a life defined by warmth, deep faith, sincere kindness, and a vibrant type of happy energy.
She graduated from Socorro High School in El Paso in 1971. A fiercely talented equestrian, Debbie enjoyed a successful career as a professional barrel racer alongside her beloved horse, Judy, earning the prestigious title of Texas "All-Around" Cowgirl for two consecutive years.
In 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Ed Lee Counts, with whom she had her two sons. Throughout her vibrant life journey, Debbie had moved to Point Blank, Texas, in 1973 and later to Sierra Blanca, Texas, in 1981. Her presence also graced a few other locations within Texas and New Mexico before eventually settling back in Conroe.
Debbie was a survivor and a truly special, happy woman who shined a light on those around her. She persevered through her journey with hope, faith, and an undeniable spirit. Despite life's struggles, she continued to be a joyful, grateful, and happy woman who lived life wholeheartedly and was an absolute joy to be around. She is loved by all that had the privilege to know her. She found immense happiness with her friends and sincerely cared for others. She enjoyed spending her time with those she loved, taking care of her ivy plants, enjoying her beer and bingo days, and most of all, dedicating her heart to her two boys. A woman of strong faith, she lived by the comforting motto, "One day at a time, sweet Jesus."
She is survived by her sons, Ed Counts and his wife, Stacey Counts, and Bryan Counts; and her grandchildren, Bryan Counts Jr. and Haylee Counts. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bobby Shepherd.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cashner Funeral Home, located at 801 Teas Rd, Conroe, TX 77303.
