Debra Ann Jones, 70, passed away on June 17, 2026. A resident of Montgomery, Texas, Debra was born in Houston on October 24, 1955, to Wardel and Emily Schuhmann. She will be remembered as a beloved presence in the lives of many—steady in her care for others, and warmly humorous in the way she could lighten a room with a well-timed remark or a knowing smile.
Debra graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 1979 with a degree in education, a calling she lived out with devotion and purpose. She taught English for 33 years to middle and high school students, offering not only instruction, but the kind of guidance that stays with people long after the final bell. She retired in 2013, leaving behind a legacy shaped by patience, dignity, and a deep respect for learning.
In 1976, while at Stephen F. Austin University, Debra met Joe Ed. They were married on June 14, 1980, in Houston, beginning a life together marked by enduring love and companionship. They welcomed their first son, Joshua, on November 4, 1983, and their second son, Daniel, on September 4, 1988.
Debra found joy in simple pleasures and shared them generously. She loved fishing—often catching more than the boys—along with birdwatching, traveling, and making desserts. She especially enjoyed trying new recipes and bringing them to parties and events, offering sweetness in more ways than one.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Wardel and Emily Schuhmann, and her mother- and father-in-law, Zelma and Seburn Jones. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Joe Ed Jones; her sons, Joshua Jones and Daniel Jones and wife (Amber); her granddaughter, Pacey Jones; her sisters, Lana Shiller, Bonnie McLain, and Sandra Barron; and numerous other family members and friends.
