DENNIE CREG SMITH, age 67 of Spring, Texas passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Dennie was born November 8, 1953, in Lytle, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary Ann Cook Smith & Watson Bell Smith and son-in-law, Mike Sortor. Dennie is survived by his wife, Sandra and his children, Suni Sortor, Matthue and Katlyn Smith, Caleb and Alexis Smith; step-children, John Dragoo and Maggie, Charles Dragoo; Sarah and Gary Popham; brothers and sisters, Nettie Ann and LeeRoy Massie, Marilyn and Kerry Gregory, Janice and Robert Griggs, Bennie and Sandie Smith. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Emilee, Baylon, Paisley, Layne, Kayse, Landon and Wyatt; step-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Aubrey, Grayson, Nolan and Colton, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Dennie graduated in 1972, from Conroe High School. He worked as a carpenter during his high school years, helping out his dad whenever he could. Dennie got on with the railroad company for 2-3 years out of high school. Dennie was also a volunteer firefighter in Conroe for several years. Then he started his career as a telephone man with Conroe Telephone Company and worked there for many years. He then worked as a cable splicer traveling around for several years. With a family, that became too hard. So, his career got him back home, working for WilTel Communications and then The Williams Company in the Business Systems Department for 30 years, where he retired. He was always a very dedicated employee with an excellent work ethic.
Dennie loved going to the beach, fishing, hunting, playing golf and just being outdoors. Grilling and hanging by the pool with his family and friends would be a perfect day for him. His incredible sense of humor and impromptu pranks will be greatly missed.
His children and grandchildren were the pride of his life. He will be greatly missed by all that loved him so much.
Dennie was in awe of his dads service in during the war. In memory of his dad, Buck Smith, donations are welcome at the Tunnel for Towers Foundation.
