Donald Joseph Henderson, aged 84, of Conroe, Texas, peacefully passed away in his sleep to be with the Lord on June 9, 2024 at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. He was born on August 13, 1939, in Conroe, Texas, to Norman Joseph and Bonnie Beulah Harris Henderson, who preceded him in death.
Donald served in Korea with the 1st Armored Division during the Vietnam War as a kitchen supervisor in the Army from 1959 to 1961. After his military service, he pursued a career as a Chef at Marriott in downtown Houston, served as Chief Cook, Kitchen Manager and Mentor at Gulf Coast Trades Center and worked at San Jac Security.
A dedicated Deacon, Donald worshipped at Woodland Heights, Northridge, and Fire Tower Baptist Churches, all located in Conroe, Texas.
Known for his kind and generous nature, Donald was a hardworking and God-loving individual. His hobbies included gardening and sharing his harvest, cooking (especially Bar-B-Que), and cheering for his all-time favorites, the Houston Astros and Houston Oilers (Texans).
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Victoria Lynn Henderson, and their children: Donald Roy [Debbie] Henderson, Joseph Michael [Linda] Henderson, and Wanda Lynn Henderson Pinson; and by his brother, Glenn Allen Henderson. He was a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren (Dustin Henderson, DJ Henderson, Ashley Drexler, Brandon Bohl, Lauren Henderson, Alexis Henderson, Amanda Pinson, and Aiden Kriley) and five great-grandchildren (Malikai, Madison, Mia, Hunter, Braxton, and one more on the way). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and a partridge in a pear tree.
Donald was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Gene Henderson and sisters Naomi Downer, Sue Pippin, and Norma Lopez-Smith. Donald was also preceded by his son John David Henderson.
Donald was a cherished friend and a father figure to many. The family wishes to thank longtime friends and spiritual leaders Troy and Dana Winslett for their love, support, and guidance over the years.
A graveside service will be held at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
