She was born January 15, 1930 in Center, Texas to Ernest and Octavia Hughes. She married the love of her life on June 21, 1947. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid gardener with her husband, Troy. They could be seen many afternoons, sitting out tending to their vegetables. She also enjoyed cooking for anyone and everyone who entered her door. You could not visit without eating something and usually taking left overs. Her greatest joy, however, seemed to be her grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved to visit and hear what they were up to and how everyone was doing. Dorothy was always taking care of everyone else. She truly exemplified her favorite scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Dorothy was very active with her former church, Spring Baptist. She loved to help with Vacation Bible School or send cards and letters for her Sunday school class. She loved the Lord and it was evident in all she did. She was a current member of the First Baptist Church of Madisonville.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Troy Bailey, daughter Janice Garner, and brother Charles Maxey Hughes. Dorothy is survived by her son Randy Bailey and his wife Laurie, son-in-law Bobby Garner, grandchildren Kristi Todd and husband Chris, Mandy Manchester and husband Neil, Kelly Hebert and husband Eric, Karen Swann and husband Cody, John Bailey and wife Alyssa, great grandchildren; Garrett, Ashley, and Lauren Todd, Bailey and Lainey Manchester, Kylie and Kaden Hebert, Brady and Avery Swann, and Avery and Hadley Bailey; sister-in-laws Joan Hughes, Rachel Addison, Betty Bailey and Pat Bailey; brother-in-law Bobby Bowden, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home, in the Colonial Chapel. The service will be officiated by Bro. Joshua Crutchfield and Warren Hunt Soloist. Interment will be held in Garden Park Cemetery with Pallbearers of Michael Hughes, Don Bodenhamer, Chris Todd, Cody Swann, Garrett Todd and Steven Dowden. Honorary Pallbearers of Paul Bailey, Dale Burkett and Troy Burt.
