She was born November 2, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to Max and Alwilda Newton Page.
On June 5, 1954, she graduated from Frank Phillips High School in Phillips, Texas. On June 6, she married James McEntire and they immediately left for Wichita Falls, where he was in the Air Force. They then went to Del Rio, where the first two daughters were born. They left the Air Force in 1959 and relocated to Fritch, TX, where the third daughter was born.
Dorothy started collage at the age of 30, with three young daughters, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Houston. Dorothy did not plan on walking to receive her diploma, but her daughter's had a different idea. They said they had worked hard for that degree, and she was going to walk. Period!
This began her career as an Educator with the Wharton ISD. After moving to Conroe in 1970, she
taught at Washington, Runyan and Armstrong Elementary Schools. She went back to school, earning a Master's Degree in Special Education from Sam Houston State University. This was the beginning of her service as a Diagnostician. In 1999, Dorothy retired after 29 years. She earned many awards and certificates for her work over the years.
Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conroe and attended the Adult Bible Class and the
Meandering Methodist Camping Group. She was a member of the Martha Montgomery Chapter, NSDAR.
She enjoyed hobbies which included sewing, reading, crafts, camping and hiking, and traveling. She hiked
the Appalachian Trail, white water rafted through the Grand Canyon, took swimming lessons at 50 something so she could snorkel in Hawaii and volunteered her sewing skills at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was always traveling to see new places, visiting family, socializing with friends, or volunteering her time. Working with
Habitat for Humanity was one of her favorite past times.
