Mrs. Dorothy Jean Cook Merriwether, 71, of Montgomery, passed away in a Woodlands hospital on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. The daughter of Marvin and Mary Alice Craig Cook, Mrs. Merriwether was born March 7, 1947 in Jacksonville, TX. Mr. and Mrs. Merriwether married in 1966 prior to him leaving for Vietnam. Once Dewane returned they moved to Houston and started their family where they settled in Kingwood for 30 years. Mrs. Merriwether was a leader in Physician Practice Management and worked hard to further her career until her retirement.
Mrs. Merriwether was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Merriwether in 2009 and her son Edward H. Merriwether in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda and husband Travis Bendele of Montgomery. She is also survived by her grandchildren Zachary, Keller and Isabelle Bendele of Montgomery. Mrs. Merriwether is also survived by her sister Mary Margaret Compton of Jacksonville and her brother Steve Cook of Ft. Worth with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. Merriwether will be Monday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Funeral Home in Conroe, TX. Officiating the ceremony will be Pastor Dowen Johnson of April Sound Church where Mrs. Merriwether was a member.
Following the services, Mrs. Merriwether will be laid to rest at Jarratt Cemetery, in Jacksonville, TX, beside her husband, Edward D. Merriwether, who preceded her in death in 2009.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23rd at Metcalf Funeral Home, Conroe.
