As I approached my Sr year, my brother who had her in 1971 keep telling me your going to get Mrs. Shaw.  Little did I know he was right.  So in 1979 looked at my schedule guess what  not only did I have her but 1st period.  Best days of my life.  She could teach anyone 

Mrs. Shaw was my teacher at Spring High School.  I adored her.  She was tough, and I liked that!  I learned many valuable lessons from her.  I hope the family will take comfort in knowing what a difference she made in so many young lives.  What a legacy!

I am so sorry for your loss. I was blessed to be taught by Mrs. Shaw for 3 years. What an English teacher she was! Ill always remember the group projects in American Studies and Senior Studies. I became an English teacher and used many of those home movies in my classroom. She taught us to write research papers and to write well. Her influence helped me get through college and graduate school. Thank you for sharing her with the students at Spring High. Im sure she is in heaven showing somebody how to punctuate correctly! I too had Mrs Shaw for Senior English in 79-80.m My sympathies to the family.

Mrs. Shaw, I really hope someone stuck a pencil in your hair for your final journey. I loved her wit and humor, I have told my children many stories about this awesome lady.

Mrs. Shaw is one of the reasons that I became a high school English teacher myself.  I loved English, and when I was a senior in 1976-77 I had Mrs. Shaw for senior English and Mr. Travis Sherman for Humanities.  Entering the 34th year of my career in English, I have often "channeled" Mrs. Shaw and hold her up as an example of what I should do/say even today.

In addition to being a great teacher, she had a terrific sense of humor.  Mr. Sherman was celebrating his 50th birthday, and the students wanted to get him something sensational.  Mrs. Shaw and I got along well, and she knew that I could be the one to rally the other students to donate monies toward a gift.  In the back of a magazine we found an advertisement for the "Uncle Sherman Flashing Doll" made out of yarn and cloth and somewhat anatomically correct.  It was hilarious.  The students in my class all pitched in and purchased it.  When the doll came to my house with those words printed all over the outside box, my parents weren't too pleased, and they called Mrs. Shaw to complain.  She took all the blame (even though it was definitely my blame), paid back the students through me and gave the gift to Mr. Sherman with a funny story attached.  I was extremely grateful at the time, and I now understand that our teachers are the first ones to treat twelfth grade students as adults in college.    

I had excellent teachers at Spring H.S., and I'm glad that Mrs. Shaw was one of them.  She was funny, intelligent, demanding, and encouraging.  Please know that she will be missed.

Mrs. Shaw taught our class in 1969 at Spring. We all  finished high school in the new High school the next year.  Our class of freshmans.

Mrs. Shaw was one of the best teachers at SHS and I was lucky to have been in her class. English was not my favorite subject, but she made it fun. She is one of the teachers that I will always remember fondly. So sorry for the family's loss. She will be missed by a lot of former students.

Dorothy helped me in many ways to become familiar with Spring, the students
and their families; as I was new to the area and a new teacher.  She represented
a strong Spring Spirit for the school, students and teachers.  She demonstrated
that spirit in organizing the teachers and hosting a bridal shower for me.  This 
was just a few ways she showed her dedication to education.  Prayers to the
family.

I was just telling my 6 & 8 year old children about Mrs. Shaw and how much I enjoyed her English class. She taught me so much! She was always so maternal, kind, and wonderful! Rest in peace, lovely lady. You will be missed.

Dorothy was my mentor when I began teaching at Spring High School in 1986.  She was a tremendous teacher for me in managing so many different elements of teaching: planning, testing, and presentation.   She was a friend and a great comfort to me in the trials faced by any new teacher.  I count her among my blessings and send you her family my thanks for sharing her with us at Spring High. What a great teacher, confidant and example for all who knew her.  She was my english teacher in 1982

I was one of the lucky ones that she took as a Freshman class and nurtured the next years preparing us for graduation.  I never enjoyed reading, but she presented many works in a way so that when I became a teacher myself, I made sure I did the same with my students to instill a love for reading that she had. Always prim, proper and poised ~ all 4 feet of her!  Fashionably dressed. Pretty sure if stilettos were fashionable then, she would have had several pair.  Those high heels she wore "almost" gave her an edge over those burly football players she would have to shake her finger at every now and then. Very professional, but her pint size had a dynamite sense of humor and a seriousness about learning that we never questionned.  My late husband, Darwin Link, and I both had her. She hosted a bridal luncheon for me when we got married. Mrs. Shaw, reach high and give Darwin a big hug for me when you see him. God bless her and those she loved.

Mrs. Shaw was one of the most amazing teachers in Spring High history! She embodied the Christian life in all she did. Sorry for your loss. Mrs.Shaw was a great Teacher. She taught my Father, Sister and I.

To this day I tell friends about the positive impact Mrs. Shaw had on my English and life.  I still quote her, "between the a and the t" when I ended a sentence with the word "at".  She was a lovely lady and excellent teacher.

Mrs. Shaw was my High School English teacher during my Freshman year at Spring High School. I remember everything about her and the way that she kept us all in line, and demanded manners and respect. She was my favorite teacher and I would visit her over the years until I graduated. We would talk and then she would tell me I better be good in all my classes or she would come and get me. I will never forget you Mrs. Shaw....

Dorothy Shaw was a tiny lady who made a huge impact on my life and the lives of thousands of others.May you join your many loved ones in Heaven.And may the ,Angels lead you to the choirs. God bless your soul and comfort those who miss you

We will miss you!!!   She was one of my Favorite Teacher!

I started teaching at Spring High in 1978 and Dorothy Shaw was such a great asset to the school and to her students.  I learned a lot from her and she was always a great friend.  She will be missed by her former students and her co-workers throughout the years.

She help mold many students into what they became as adults.    I am blessed to have been one of those students.   I know God has blessed her with eternal life with Him.      Richard Schmidt   Spring High School   Class  of 1971.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Shaw was my senior year ('71-'72) English teacher. I loved her & her wonderful sense of humor! I learned writing skills from her that have served me well to this day. I have no doubt that she has her spot in heaven & is continuing to sing, while lighting up heaven with her big smile!

Simply one of the best teachers we had at Spring High School.  She demanded perfection, made English and literature come alive, and shaped our minds to be better than average. I had Ms. Shaw for English at Spring High in 1971 and she left an indelible mark on my mind and my heart.  A day does not go by that her caring style of teaching is not reflected in my work.  From the bottom of my heart I express my deepest gratitude for the gift of knowledge she bestowed upon me.

My brother, Sammy Chron, and I are so sorry to hear of her passing. Our daddy worked with Mr. Shaw at Cockfield. Your parents were such sweet people and we will lift you  all up in prayer for the Lord's peace and comfort.

I am very sorry for your loss. Ms. Dorothy was most certainly one of a kind!  I especially enjoyed our Sunday morning times together and have missed them terribly!  Such a special lady in every sense of the title!
