She is survived by her children, Angela Vela Solomon, Elizabeth Kay Vela, Louis David Vela and his wife Trinh, and Demetrio Marcus Vela.
Dorothy entered the world as a breech birth and landed on her feet. She grew up in New Waverly, Texas, graduating from New Waverly High School in 1956. She attended Massey Business College down in the big city of Houston before she fell head over heels for a brown-eyed handsome man, Earl Vela. They married on March 8, 1958.
Like her mother Era, Dorothy was a very wise woman who gave practical advice to her children, who unfortunately did not always take it to heart.
Dorothy had many skills: she was a talented sketch artist; she made her own clothes for many years. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Many remember her delicious pies, especially her pecan, pumpkin, and chocolate cream pies. She learned to cook homestyle Mexican food just like her mother-in-law. Her homemade tortillas were legendary. She loved watching western movies and TV shows, especially those starring Randolph Scott.
More importantly, she loved learning about Jehovah God and telling others about the Kingdom and the wonderful things it will accomplish. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 1, 1967, and remained faithful until her death. She firmly believed in the resurrection, and we are confident that we will see her again here on the earth (John 5:28,29).
A graveside service and interment will be held at Willis Cemetery, located at 167-189 Cemetery Rd, Willis, Texas. The service is scheduled for February 9, 2026, at 11:00 am.
