Doug was born in Williston, North Dakota, but moved to Minot, North Dakota in 1968. Throughout his early life, he played hockey and had many friends. He began work at the age of 14 at King’s Food Host in Minot, ND.
He moved to Boston, Massachusetts in his 20s where he worked at Burger King and eventually was able to transfer to the Houston area, where he began his family with his former wife, Debi. They had a daughter, Bryanna, in 1995 and moved to Katy, Texas where he spent the next 20 years of his life. He was an amazing father and made sure that his daughter was always taken care of and protected. Family meant the absolute world to him, and he carried that into his work life as well.
He worked as a general manager for Wendy’s for many years in which he met many amazing people. Those coworkers and employees made a lasting impact on him, and he maintained those friendships for the rest of his life. Doug moved on to become a general manager of many Pappas BBQ locations around Houston, but stayed at the Woodlands/Conroe location for the longest. There he made even more amazing friendships.
In 2020, Doug married Maria Emelina Melo Berg in a beautiful backyard wedding surrounded by their families and friends. They had 4 wonderful, but short years together. He gained three stepdaughters and they were able to spend a lot of time together.
Doug was a very hard worker, a value he passed on to his daughter and everyone who worked with and around him. He was able to retire at the end of 2023, just in time to become a grandfather. Everyone who knew him knew that he wanted a grandbaby for so long. He loved his grandson so much, and was very excited to do all the “boy” things with him as he grew up. Doug was loved by all who knew him and we are grieving his loss deeply.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Wagner, father, Ray Berg, and infant daughter Hailey Berg. He is survived by his wife, Emelina, daughter, Bryanna, Son-in-law, Tyler, grandson, Larry, Stepdaughters, Alicia, Luisa, and Alejandra, brother Lonnie, and sisters Valerie and Jackie.
A celebration of life for Douglas will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303.
