
Funeral services for Eddie E. Rogers will be held Monday, November 12th, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Cashner Colonial Chapel with burial following the service. Visitation will be that day from 1:30 to 3:00 pm prior to the service in the chapel.
On Friday, November 09, 2012, after only 81 short years of life, he left Conroe, Texas and was transformed to an Angel. God granted him golden wings and a halo to match his heart of gold that he so long possessed here on Earth.
Eddie was born on Friday, June 12, 1931 to Thomas Calvin Rogers and Letha Odella Rogers in Laurel Hill, Florida. Eddie grew up in a small town and loved the life of a country boy in a family with 11 children.
He was raised as a farm boy and enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends and family. He remembered a lot of childhood experiences and spoke of them often. Eddie joined the Air Force in 1948 and served from 1948 to 1955 in Japan and Korea as a staff sergeant functioning as a supply clerk. Our country owes a debt of gratitude to him for his service and to the others veterans that served with him.
In 1956, Eddie married Agnes Richards in a bit of fever, in Jackson, Mississippi. A few years later Eddie became the father of three very proud daughters (JoAnn Nix, Debbie Simpson, and Penny Weaver).
During their marriage, Eddie held occupations as a bus driver, farmer, furniture mover, and railroad switchman. He retired from the railroad after 23 years of service.
Eddie was a very confident person, possessed strong values, was morally driven, and lived his life as a trusted friend, incredibly dedicated partner, and wonderful father and grandfather. Eddie was highly respected by his family, closest friends and many others as an upstanding citizen during his lifetime. He spent many hours of his life being a “good neighbor” to others in need and led and encouraged his family in doing so. He was always trying to make others comfortable and “at home.” He would always spend extra time to wave goodbye to friends that had to depart from his sight. He was truly a fine Christian man. His entire life was a testament.
Eddie was married to Agnes for over 55 years and they lived a very happy and fruitful life together. He was grandfather to 3 grandsons (Dustin Nix, Tony Weaver, and Stephen Simpson). Names Eddie was called by include: Eddie, dear, baby, honey, daddy, dad, Paw Paw, and pops.
His wife Agnes and his daughters write:

Eddie’s favorite phrases included:
Question: How are you doing Eddie? Answer: Mighty fine.
When he was asked a question sometimes or he was explaining some things – It don’t differ.
He described something difficult as: It’s like cotton candy; nothing to it.
Eddie’s favorite foods were honey buns, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, tomatoes, okra, peas, squash, boiled peanuts, watermelon, Funyun potato chips, and snack cakes. His favorite drinks included coffee, water, and Sprite. His favorite meal was breakfast. Eddie loved to have coffee and breakfast with his closest friends and enjoyed gardening, fishing, walks in the woods, observing nature, chewing tobacco, barbeques, fish fries, travel, and family time.
During his lifetime, Eddie developed many skills including carpentry, farming, livestock care, as well as basic plumbing, pipefitting, electrical, and hydraulics. He was very good at material organization and management, packing and moving, tree removal, landscaping, and as a handyman, He was detail oriented, and possessed many talents at planning, implementing, and completing multiple types of projects.
Eddie’s carpentry skills were first rate. Eddie’s home has many cabinets and shelves custom designed by him. He was the designer/builder of one of his daughter’s first house’s that is now a rental home. This three story “A frame” structure was the location used to host an entire wedding for approximately 30 people in 1986. Eddie was also the lead carpenter/co-builder for the construction of an 1872 square foot office/garage for his daughter and son-in-law. He also constructed various custom woodwork items for family members and friends.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Agnes Rogers of 55 years, his daughter JoAnn Nix and husband Mark Nix, his daughter Penny Weaver and companion Dwayne Myrick, his daughter Debbie Simpson and husband Alton Simpson, and three wonderful grandsons: Dustin Nix, Tony Weaver and Stephen Simpson. His surviving sisters include: Myrle Wilkinson, Carolyn Hataway, Gladys Boykin and Mavis Tucker. He is also survived by some very special friends including: Chuck and Bobbye Cotton, Bob and Barbara Gandy, Joni Gandy, and Fred and Betty Gregg.
