Elizabeth was born on December 11, 1940, in Seymour, Indiana to Bertha Irene (Smith) Haley and Frederick L. Haley. Elizabeth moved from Indiana to Florida with her mother. Following in her mother’s footsteps of being an educator, she went on to obtain her Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) from Nova University in Davie, Florida.
Elizabeth was married to James Howard Gillie with whom she had her only child, James Paul Gillie. She subsequently married Charles “Chuck” Faulkner. Widowed twice, she married Joseph Samuel Ebanks, Jr. on April 12, 2002, in Brenham, TX.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her first two husbands, and her only beloved child.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Sam Ebanks, her brother Jim Haley (Betty) of Indiana, and her grandson, James Charles Gillie (Jaymi).
Also surviving are her three stepchildren, Lynda Ebanks Harrison (Jerry), Susan Ebanks de Boisblanc (Charles) and Darren Ebanks (Jana) as well as 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
After receiving her Doctorate of Education, Elizabeth was invited to relocate to Grand Cayman Island to begin a Special Education focus, and subsequently founded Faulkner Academy in 1994. She was highly regarded by the community and government of the Cayman Islands and was honored by receiving a prestigious award recognizing her contribution of being one of the founding educators in the country. Elizabeth led the Academy until retiring in 2002 to begin a new chapter in her life. This new chapter involved extensive travel and finally relocating to Texas with Sam. It was here that she finally got her beautiful home in the country with her two Gypsy horses and her constant companion, her much-loved dog, Ticket.
Elizabeth was a devoted member of her church, First Presbyterian Church in Conroe, TX. She was active in a small group and her Sunday school class. She also a member of the church sewing circle which spent much time creating blankets and quilts to donate to hospitals, veterans, and to those in need. She loved to quilt, embroidery and cross-stitch. She always had a new project ahead of her.
Elizabeth was a great supporter of veterans and wildlife and was proud to donate to veteran causes and animal rescues.
The family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love and support from Elizabeth’s friends and neighbors during this difficult time. This includes her pastor, Rev. David Green, who was a constant source of guidance and comfort.
