Alice Faye Solomon passed on October 3, 2026, at the age of 97. A longtime resident of Montgomery, Texas, Faye will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who were blessed to know her. Her life was marked by steady devotion, quiet wisdom, and a kind-hearted way of caring for others that asked for nothing in return.
Born April 6, 1929, in Tulare, California, Faye later moved with her family to Thomas, Oklahoma, where she attended school while her family sharecropped. As one of nine children, she learned early the meaning of loyalty and selflessness, helping care for her younger siblings with a resilience that would remain a defining strength throughout her life.
Faye carried a strong work ethic into adulthood. She worked at the Imperial Sugar refinery in Sugar Land and later spent 25 years at the Heritage House restaurant in Montgomery. Even into her late 70s, she served others with honesty, warmth, and a touch of humor that made her unforgettable—so much so that customers didn’t just recognize her; they knew her and loved her.
On August 31, 1949, in Sugar Land, TX, she met and married the love of her life, Radis Solomon. Their 31 years of marriage were a lasting foundation in her life, and after his passing, Faye never remarried—remaining steadfast in her love and faithful in her remembrance. In every season, she was cherished as the heart of her family and honored as its matriarch, always placing others first and making sure those she loved were cared for.
Faye found her greatest joy in loving on her family and grandbabies. She enjoyed cooking, and she also delighted in going to the casino to play the slots. Yet, more than any pastime, she simply loved taking care of everyone—giving of herself with a devoted spirit and a steady, comforting presence. She worked hard and took care of her family, and she didn’t want to do anything else; she would rather be with her family, because she was, in every sense, all about family. She was affectionately called Memaw by almost everyone.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Radis Solomon; sons, Edward and Rodger Solomon; daughter-in-law Candy Solomon; parents, Levi and Mozelle Smith; and siblings, Leon Smith, Leroy Smith, Hazel Eppolito, Jim Smith, Lawrence Smith, Levi Smith, Wanda Boyd, and Sharon Woolly.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law 'Tricia Solomon; son David Solomon and daughter-in-law Dena Solomon; son Jimmy Solomon and daughter-in-law Amanda Solomon; granddaughters, Stacey Colton (Walter), Ladonna Meeler (Warren), Tami Wickham (Ken), and Tudi Gale (Anton); grandsons, David Solomon (Carrie), Chris Solomon (Cathie), Nicholas Solomon (Bonnie), Bryan Solomon (Courtney), Scott Solomon, Dustin Solomon (Jessica), and Mason Solomon; 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
