She spent most of her years in Ranger, TX & went to Ranger High School. She was a member of the drill team and then later a Cheerleader. Like her Mother & 3 sisters, Flo was quite musical, playing the piano for church & school events.
After high school, she went to Ranger Junior School, then later Texas Tech University, majoring in Music & Education.
Upon graduating from Texas Tech, she began her long, illustrious teaching career at a school in Andrews, TX. While living in Andrews, she met her future husband, the late Dennis Baughman. They dated for 5 months and were married for 58 years before his passing in June of 2015. After Andrews, Flo & Dennis moved to Houston in 1957 & then moved to Conroe in 1959.
She & Dennis bought a Humble Oil station on 105 and then later built another Humble Oil station on Frazier, and yet another on the corner of Frazier and Davis. They also owned the Tastee-Freeze for a few years.
After moving to Conroe, Flo continued teaching primarily Kindergarten students, first at Sam Houston Elementary, then at Classic Preparatory, then moving to Armstrong Elementary for its opening. After many years teaching Kindergarten, she became the Music Teacher at Armstrong before retiring from teaching in 1982.
Even after retirement, Flo continued to play the piano for many social & church events, including her Sunday school class. She even recently played Happy Birthday on her recent 88th birthday.
As well as playing the piano, Flo also enjoyed playing games, especially Bridge & Yahtzee. She was also an avid watcher of Wheel of Fortune. She’s been a member of FUMC-Conroe for 60 years. She & Dennis were charter members of the Meandering Methodists camping group as well.
She is survived by two sons, Chris and wife Karen Baughman of Conroe, TX, and Charlie and wife Paula Baughman of Colorado Springs.
