Known to family, friends, and co-workers as Richard, he was born to Edward Maduzia and Veronica Hablinski Maduzia in Houston, TX, on July 16, 1936. Richard graduated from Houston’s Jefferson Davis High School in 1955, where he was a member of ROTC. He served with the 36th Army National Guard and Army Reserves from 1954 to 1962 before an honorable discharge at the rank of SFC (E6) with commendations.
He was devoted to his family and always found time to be part of his children’s and grandchildren’s many activities -- Little League Baseball, karate lessons, school plays, hunting, and anything else they would try to convince him into letting them do. He supported them, no matter the circumstances.
Richard had lifelong employment as an electrician, eventually retiring from the City of Houston Aviation Department. After retiring, Richard enjoyed gardening and taking ocean cruises with his wife, family, and friends. He would quickly organize the pictures as soon as he arrived home to reflect on the fun times. He served as President for the City of Chateau Woods, TX Civic Club and was a member of the Pinnacles Homeowners Association in Woodlands, Texas.
Richard is survived by his daughter Jodie Maduzia Janczak and her husband David; his son Franklin R. Maduzia, Jr., and his wife Norma; his son Douglas Maduzia, and his wife Jane; his son Stephen Maduzia and his wife Ginger; his son Jason Maduzia and his wife April; and his grandchildren -- Jamie Janczak Zolan and her husband Tim; Michael Maduzia, Kassandra Maduzia, Ashley Maduzia, Elise Maduzia, and Madison Maduzia.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gibson Maduzia; his parents, Edward Maduzia and Verna Hablinski Maduzia; his brothers Bernard, Jay, and Kenneth Maduzia; and his sister Shirley Maduzia Springate.
Richard’s philosophy on child rearing was, “Right now, you may hate me; when you get a little older, you will respect me because I’m your father, and one day, if I did my job right, you will love me.” He did his job right.
He will be forever loved and greatly missed.
