George Sanderson Sturges, Senior, affectionately known as Sandy, went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2022, surrounded by his family. George was born June 23, 1935 to Edward and Katherine Sturges in Modesto, California. He grew up in Bakersfield, attending Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College. He met his wife of 64 years, Jeri, at First Presbyterian Church, and together they welcomed three children; George, Jr., Marilyn, and John.
George was a devoted husband and father. Our memories of him include summers in Clearlake (where he water skied until his 80th birthday), treasured times at Camp Sierra, and many other family vacations. He always said “Yes” to whatever we wanted to do.
George enjoyed travel, cars, airplanes, trains, or anything with an engine. He was an avid reader who was knowledgeable on many subjects. Above all, George was dedicated to his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with them.
George had a strong faith and could be counted on for moral advice. He led the family in prayer, was a man of noble character, and our example always. He will be missed by us all.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jeri, their children George Sr. (Boni), his daughter Marilyn Wisnowskie (Don), his sister Louise DeDera (Roger), 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son John.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, July 8, 2022, at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd, Bakersfield, CA 93305. There will be an option to attend virtually. Celebration of life will be held after the funeral at the Sturges Ranch.
