Glenn Paul Coker, 87, of Huntsville, Texas, passed away on September 19, 2024. He was born to parents Paul Coker and Charlotte (Voog) Coker on September 5, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois where he was raised with his brother, Richard.
He married and had three children, Timothy, Adam, and Penny. He studied engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology and worked as a metallurgist for 30 years at Amoco Oil Company. He retired in 1994.
In August 1986 he married his devoted wife Lynne (Lumpkin) Coker. They attended the First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville and built their retirement home bordering the National Forest that they enjoyed very much. He enjoyed everything relating to nature, especially birdwatching and caring for his fish. He had an impressive green thumb and was an animal lover. He was an amazing cook his whole life but loved sushi the most. He was Norwegian, a lifelong Presbyterian, and fluent in sarcasm.
Glenn is survived by his brother Richard, his three children (Timothy, Adam, Penny), his four grandchildren (Jacob, Johnny, Abby, and Andrew), nieces and nephews, and many loving friends. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 37 years, Lynne, who passed the previous year.
Later in life, Glenn was given a stage four cancer diagnosis that required a resection of his tongue. He persevered for 12 years as a survivor of that cancer and beat the odds to pass of old age.
A small, private memorial per his personal preference will be held.
