

Gloria Maxine Borchert Schank passed away the morning of January 1, 2026. She joins her husband of 68 beautiful years in Heaven, Oscar E. Schank; her sister, Billie Mize; and her eldest daughter, Catherine Schank Stanley.
Maxine was born December 17, 1932, in Ranger, Texas to her parents, Herman Borchert and Lucille “Matee” Prock Bailey. She married Oscar Schank in 1950 at the First Baptist Church of Genoa. In 1962, they moved to Conroe, Texas, where they became active members of the First Baptist Church of Groceville. Her polished and meticulous decorations were enjoyed by many attending church services and events for decades. Not a single flower was ever out of place.
Maxine also enjoyed traveling with her husband, including a trip to Israel to tour the Holy Land. She shared their love of travel with their grandchildren, taking them on RV trips around the United States and creating lifelong memories. She enjoyed hosting community luncheons and family gatherings, always serving a wide variety of perfectly cooked meals, presented in her beautiful collection of serving dishes.
She is survived by her son, George Schank; her daughter, Natalie Schank Dempsey, and son-in-law, Daniel Dempsey; and her son-in-law, Mark Stanley. Fondly known as “Dilly” and “Granna,” she was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: DeeAnn Schank Standlee, Audrey Schank, April Schank Arnold, Darrell Paul, Daniel Paul, Rosanna Dempsey, and Dustin Dempsey. She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews who carry her legacy forward. Her love, devotion, creativity, and wit will be deeply missed by all.
The family welcomes you to attend the graveside service on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Garden Park Cemetery.
