Gordon Nelson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community member, passed away on April 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born on Vashon Island in Dockton, Washington, Gordon lived a life marked by determination, love, generosity, patience, and a thirst for knowledge.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Jack Spaulding. He has two sisters and a brother including his loving sister Gloria Nelson. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 45 years, Linda, and their three children: Kelly and her husband Jason, Jeffrey and his wife Kelsey, and Kimberly and her husband Chris. Gordon’s legacy continues through his seven cherished grandchildren—Kate, Tom, Jade, Jack, Bree, Bryce, and Luke—who brought him immense joy.
A man of many passions, Gordon loved fishing, volunteering, and meticulously restoring his MG roadsters. Above all, he cherished his family, dedicating his life to providing them with love, opportunity, and unwavering support. His career was a testament to his perseverance, beginning in college moving barrels in warehouses and rising to the role of vice president at the same company until his retirement.
For many years he gave back to the community. He spent hours volunteering with Habitat for Humanity with the group called the “Old Geezers.” He also enjoyed working at New Danville, a community for adults with developmental disabilities, spending countless hours in the woodworking shop with the residents.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2004, Gordon faced the illness with extraordinary strength, grace, and positivity. He never complained, always striving to participate fully in the lives of his family and friends. His resilience and optimistic spirit inspired all who knew him. He was universally loved in The Woodlands community, surrounded by care and affection throughout his life.
Gordon’s family celebrates his enduring legacy of perseverance and toughness, finding comfort in the knowledge that he is now in heaven, free from the constraints of his illness. They envision him joyfully fishing, smiling, and watching over his loved ones, embraced in the kingdom of heaven.
A memorial service will be held Friday May 16th at 1:00 PM at The Woodlands Methodist Church, (2200 Lake Woodlands Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77380) in the Harvest Worship Center.
